While the storytelling methods in Tacoma are masterful, another element should receive more recognition. Fullbright has created one of the most inclusive video games in recent memory. My fellow enthusiast, Steve Clist, wrote about how games with customizable characters bypassed diversity instead of discussing it head on
As a person of color, I usually create my characters to look like someone from my race. I’m Hispanic, specifically, Puerto Rican. While there have been awesome Hispanic characters such as Garcia Hotspur from Shadows of the Damned, Rico Rodriguez from the Just Cause franchise, Christie Monteiro from Tekken, and Dominic Santiago from the Gears of War series, most Hispanic characters don’t have proper representation. Whenever I watch crime dramas, most drug dealers or villains are tough looking Mexican guys. While the show or film might be incredible, that trope just feels tired and overused.
