While Microsoft is busy preparing to push the Xbox brand into the future with the powerful new Xbox One X, the folks over at Hyperkin toiling away at recreating something from the console brand’s past—the original Xbox’s ‘Duke’ controller.
‘The Duke’ was the very first iteration of the Xbox-styled controller layout that millions of gamers have come to know. But, it wasn’t the best for a first attempt. The controller is remembered not very fondly by some folks due to it being rather large and uncomfortable. Gamers with smaller hands found it difficult to use the controller due to its massive size compared to other controllers. Microsoft eventually went back to the drawing board and then released the Xbox ‘S’ Controller, which was a lot smaller and compact and looks a lot closer to the design of the Xbox 360 controller and Xbox One’s controller.
Even though the OG ‘Duke’ wasn’t loved by many, it seems like there is a crowd who was fond of it. As a result, Hyperkin reached out to Microsoft to recreate the controller to be used on Xbox One and Windows 10. Microsoft has officially given the approval and the ‘New Duke’ will indeed be releasing.

Microsoft made the surprise announcement during its E3 2017 presentation that original Xbox titles will be joining the ever-growing roster of select backwards-compatible games on Xbox One. So, whenever the ‘New Duke’ comes out, you’ll be able to play some of your OG Xbox favorites as authentically as possible on a modern system.
