EA has announced that it has purchased Respawn, the development studio responsible for the Titanfall franchise. EA has been a publisher for the series since its inception, and the studio will now function as an EA first party developer.
The announcement was made for the amount of $455 million and will include both cash and bonuses toward future games. For example, bonuses for the studio’s metacritic scores on its games will be rewarded for both Titanfall 3 and its upcoming Star Wars game. The studio won a bid by Nexon, which currently publishes the Titanfall mobile game. No word on how much their bid amounted to.
Respawn has always been an independent studio, and published both Titanfall and Titanfall 2 under the same banner. The original game was exclusive to Xbox One and PC, while Titanfall 2 was also released on PS4. The second game added an excellent campaign and the game sold well, but unfortunately not as good as it could have due to being sandwiched in between Battlefield 1 (also EA) and Call of Duty.
No word on when Titanfall 3 will be formally revealed or any release date, but we can be sure it will launch on the same platforms. What do you think of this news? Let us know below.
