Rare has announced that another Scale Test for Sea Of Thieves will take place this weekend. From Friday, March 2nd through Sunday, March 4th, people who participated in the closed beta can take part in the Scale Test. According to Rare, the Scale Test will help the development team “The goal of this is to test the latest services work we have done, and try and hit the highest number of concurrent players yet!”
The studio also addressed some of its expectations regarding the test.
With this added scale we expect – and plan – to see issues, that we can learn from and address. Not only are we looking to hit scale, we will also purposefully be stressing our services by throttling performance at certain times, testing the game in different data centres around the world, and simulating deliberate outages.
Some examples of the issues we expect to see are:
· Sessions being interrupted
· An inability to join the game at certain times during the weekend
· Issues when using shops in-game
Sea Of Thieves will be launching on March 20th for Xbox One and Windows 10. It will cost $59.99 to purchase, but Xbox Game Pass members will be able to download the game on launch date for being a part of the service. For those who don’t know, Xbox Game Pass costs $9.99 a month and features over 150 games to play. Additionally, all Xbox first party games will come to the service on launch date. Super Lucky’s Tale, Rise of the Tomb Raider, and Resident Evil Revelations 2 were among the latest games to be added to the program.
