The Forza series has been a Microsoft mainstay for quite a few years now. Back in 2012, Microsoft decided to try diversifying the series by creating a new branch named Forza Horizon, which was developed by Playground Games. It turned out quite well, thus leading to the current trend of the series alternating between a new Motorsport and Horizon title with each new release. Since Playground Games and Microsoft have grown very close over the years, this interesting bit of news from a recent report from WCCFTech makes a whole lot of sense.
WCCFTech managed to spot the appointment of Mr. Keith Ranger Dolliver as a Director at Playground Games as of May 29, 2018 on the studio’s Companies House page. Mr. Dolliver already holds the position of being the VP and Deputy General Counsel, Business and Corporate Development over at Microsoft. So, now that he’s sitting high at Playground Games’ table, this does highly suggest that Microsoft will be officially acquiring the studio as one of its own. Playground Games has been working on Microsoft IPs since its inception, so it makes you wonder what took the Green Team so long to make this move. But, as the old saying goes, “better late than never”, right?
Last year Microsoft released Forza Motorsport 7 on Xbox One and Windows 10. Following the aforementioned trend of alternating between the two branches, that means this year’s Forza release is undoubtedly going to be Forza Horizon 4. This, of course, is being developed by Playground Games. Microsoft’s E3 2018 presentation is in just a few days, so we’ll finally get to lay eyes on the game very soon.
