There were some crazy announcements at Xbox’s 2018 E3 Conference. Way too many to keep track of. So here is a collection of the smaller news items you might have missed.
Even without gameplay or a screenshot, one of the biggest surprises for me was a new Battletoads. Just the fact that it exists is enough to make me excited. All we know about it is that it will have three player co-op and 2.5D hand-drawn graphics. I can’t imagine how beautiful it must look. A new Battletoads has been rumored for years ever since they renewed the Battletoads trademark in 2014. Even so, I did not expect this one at all and now I’m super pumped to know more.
A new Xbox One version of Black Desert was announced with a trailer, showcasing characters and locations from the popular MMORPG. It’s been a big hit on PC for years now, coming out in North America in 2016. In that time it has amassed 3.4 million players. That player base can only get bigger with an Xbox One version. A beta for it will be coming in the fall of this year.
Strangely, a Kickstarter backed game was shown off. Called Session, it is a skateboarding sim from Montreal indie developer Crea-ture Studios. It’s coming to Xbox One by way of the Xbox Game Preview before the end of 2018, the final version will release in 2019. It was a Kickstarter success, amassing more than double its original goal of CA$80,000.
An indie Xbox One console exclusive was shown as well. Called Tunic, it is a classic Zelda-esque game where you play as a super cute fox. Made by just one man from Canada, the isometric action, and puzzle solving gameplay looks adorable and fun.
And, finally, a new DLC package was announced for the smash hit Cup Head. It’s called The Delicious Last Course (a fitting name if this is the only DLC) and is packed full of content. A new island to explore, new bosses to fight, and new weapons and charms to equip. And, the biggest addition, Ms. Chalice, a brand new female playable character. The DLC is coming in 2019 and just like the game itself, it is Xbox One and PC exclusive.
So, there you have it. Five game announcements you might have missed. What do you think? Do any of those games and DLCs catch your eye?
Been a fan of video games ever since I opened up a Game Boy with Pokemon Yellow one Christmas far too long ago. I even taught myself to read by playing it! From then on, games and words have always been linked for me. I found that what I really liked about video games (and every other thing I owned) was the stories they held. I’m honored to be here, using my words to talk about the wonderful worlds that games can take us to.
