Black Friday is the best day of the year for consumers. Countless items are on sale. Many people do their Christmas shopping on that day or treat themselves to some cool things. If you’re an Xbox owner, this year’s Black Friday sale is full of fantastic deals. Here are five titles on sale on the Xbox Game Store that should definitely check out.
Mortal Kombat XL: $5
Mortal Kombat X is one of my favorite fighting games on Xbox One. From iconic kharacters to new additions to the roster, Mortal Kombat X is the most visceral installment in the franchise. The X-ray attacks are cringe-worthy, and the fatalities are as wonderfully vicious as ever. What makes Mortal Kombat XL the definitive version of the game? Well, every DLC fighter is included. For only $5 you’ll get fan favorites like Bo’ Rai Cho, Tanya, and Goro. Additionally, horror icons Predator, the Xenomorph, Jason Vorhees, and Leatherface all show up to spill gallons of blood. Mortal Kombat XL is well worth full price, but at $5, it’s an absolute steal.
Overwatch: Legendary Edition: $19.80
One of my favorite games of this generation and 2016 is Overwatch. Blizzard’s “Hero Shooter” has been a fantastic value since launch. The studio has released a bunch of maps and new characters at no additional cost. The gameplay tweaks and continuous upgrades have made the game a gift that keeps on giving. Overwatch isn’t just another shooter. It features fast-paced action, memorable characters, unpredictable moments, fierce competition and even more content than others in the genre.
Every character in the roster has their own personality and gameplay style. Despite not having a single-player campaign, Overwatch holds its own as a multiplayer-only shooter. For $19.80, you can check out one of the best shooters available on Xbox One.
Batman: Return to Arkham: $5
After plenty of terrible outings, people seemed to be shocked when Rocksteady Studios released the stellar Batman: Arkham Asylum on Xbox 360. It included notable villains from Batman’s Rogues Gallery, brutal combat, unexpected twists, and an authentic Batman experience. Batman: Arkham Asylum sees the caped crusader trying to stop The Joker from taking over the titular mental institution. The mixture of combat, stealth, memorable set-pieces, moments of horror, and easter eggs for fans made Arkham Asylum one of the best comic adaptations ever.
Also included in the bundle, is Batman: Arkham City, the open-world sequel. While Arkham Asylum was a more contained Metroidvania type experience, Arkham City raised the stakes in almost every way. The sequel is considered by most as the best in the franchise. Admittedly, I’m not a huge fan of Arkham City, but I acknowledge everything it did for the franchise. Players can also take control of Robin, Nightwing, and Catwoman. It’s a massive sequel that feels wholly different from the original. For $5, you’ll get over 70 hours of content with the Caped Crusader. Fans of action games and comic books can’t go wrong with that price.
Diablo III: Eternal Collection: $19.80
Let’s get this out of the way. Diablo III is one of the best games ever created. I’m not a PC gamer, but I bought Diablo 3 at launch for my PC. Clocking in at over 700 hours of personal game time, I was addicted to Blizzard’s dungeon-crawler. My obsession with the Demon Hunter I created couldn’t have been healthy. I bought the expansion and put in even more hours into the game because of the new content. When Diablo III launched on Xbox 360, I needed to add it to my collection. The same thing happened when the Ultimate Evil Edition released on Xbox One in 2014.
Buying Diablo III multiple times hasn’t stopped me from picking it up on Switch as well. Diablo III: Eternal Collection is the definitive version of the game to own. It contains every expansion available for Diablo III. For under $20, you can play an addictive video game that’s fun on your own or with friends. There are multiple classes to use, thousands of items to unlock, and near limitless replayability. Diablo III is surely a Hell of a way to spend time on your Xbox One.
LEGO City Undercover: $9
LEGO games always surprise me. When LEGO Star Wars: The Video Game launched in 2005, I passed it off as a cheesy kids game. Little did I know that it would be the start of something special. First of all, the LEGO games feature humor that both kids and adults can enjoy. Second, the gameplay is fantastic, Finally, LEGO games usually revolve around iconic IPs that people love. From Jurassic World to The Hobbit to Indiana Jones, LEGO games found its audience.
What happened when TT Games tried to do something different? We got LEGO City Undercover. Inspired by the LEGO set of the same name, LEGO City Undercover took an open-world, mixed it with Grand Theft Auto and also gave fans the typical gameplay we’ve grown to love. LEGO City Undercover is a unique and charming blend of humor and thrills that feature enough parodies to lose count of. TT Games took a chance with a lesser-known property and knocked it out of the park. Honestly, it’s a sin that the studio didn’t continue with the franchise. Regardless, if you haven’t played this gem, it’s a steal at $9.
Well, there you have it. Here are five games that you should pick up during the Xbox Game Store Black Friday sale. All of these games are excellent, and you can snag them for under $20. Leave a comment below with games you are planning to buy during the week.
