All the news from Inside Xbox for April

Gamescom 2019

Yesterday saw the latest episode of Inside Xbox treat us with a load of new information for our beloved system. Well, if you missed it and don’t have an hour spare to watch the full stream, we’ve got you covered. Here are all the big announcements from April’s Inside Xbox.

Xbox Game Pass Ultimate

The much rumoured Ultimate version of Game Pass is a reality. While this may sound like some super-duper version of Game Pass where you get more games, what it actually does is combine your Xbox Live Gold subscription with your Game Pass subscription. For $14.99 a month you can get Xbox Live Gold and Game Pass. If you are a monthly subscriber, this offers a serious saving over the $9.99 subscription per service.

Sea of Thieves update

Sea of Thieves has recently turned 1 year old. If you’re a fan of the game, or are looking to get into it, you’ll be excited to know that there is a big update coming to Rare’s swashbuckler on 30th April. First of all, you can now go fishing in the game. And what can you do with your catch, I hear you ask? Well, obviously you can sell it but you could also use the new cooking system to rattle yourself up a tasty little supper. If you more into the aggressive side of being a pirate than the culinary one, then you’ll be interested in the new harpoon gun. These ship mounted weapons can aid your boarding of another ship or to pull barrels and chests out of the water.

Also included in the anniversary update, the biggest update for the game yet, are The Arena, Tall Tales, and The Hunter’s Call. Tall Tales is a story-driven quest system. There will be 9 tales that tell one story. The Hunter’s Call is a new trading company centred around hunting, fishing, and cooking. And, of course, there’s The Arena, Sea of Thieves’ competitive multiplayer mode. You can check out the Sea of Thieves anniversary preview stream down below –

Xbox One S All-Digital Console

Another rumour was also confirmed during Inside Xbox. The Xbox One S All-Digital Console is basically a standard Xbox One S with the disk drive removed. Why would you want to remove the disk drive? Well, a lot of gamers are going digital with their game libraries this generation. More importantly, though, it means that you can save $50 on the usual price of an Xbox One S. It comes with Minecraft, Sea of Thieves, and Forza Horizon 3, so you’ll be able to start filling up that hard drive with amazing titles as soon as you plug it in. Rage 2

Next up was some exclusive gameplay of Rage 2. The first thing that was pointed out was that you don’t need to have played the first game to appreciate this sequel. You play as a completely new character and stands on its own. The next thing they talked about was the world. The original game was set in the desert and that’s about all there was. Lots of brown sand everywhere. In Rage 2, there’s a lot more going on. There are far more settlements and general points of interest in the world. They also talked about the dynamic nature of the world with loads of events to find and various events that will find you.

There was also talk about the weapons in the game. With this being an Id Software title (they’re working with Avalanche Studios) there is a BFG in the game. You’ll also find all the standard weapons like shotguns and assault rifles but also more sci-fi hardware like the hyper cannon, which is like a rail gun. There are also abilities like slam and shatter that you can also use to obliterate your enemies. We were also advised that the first thing you want to do in the game is to find the Arks. These are sci-fi type tombs that allow you to collect new abilities and weapons.

Gears ELEAGUE Summer Series

Head honcho at The Coalition, Rod Ferguson was on hand to announce Gears ELEAGUE Summer Series. This will be six episodes showcasing some of the stories and players from the Gears esports series. This will also mark the end of esports for Gears of War 4 and introduce competitive play for Gears 5. You can check out the announcement trailer down below –

Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order

Respawn’s latest game finally got fully revealed at Star Wars celebration over the weekend. Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order is a singleplayer game with a strong emphasis on telling a Star Wars story. You play as Cal Kestis. A character with a mysterious past and is a force user. Lightsaber combat is a strong emphasis in the game. Respawn promise that it’s a little more complex than hack-and-slash or a button masher but will still be accessible to all players. You can check out Inside Xbox segment down below –

Backwards Compatibility

Ah, all of us in Enthusiast Towers have fond memories of the Xbox 360 days. Thanks to the backwards compatibility program, we are able to relive some of those memories on our Xbox Ones. Well, the latest title we’ll be able to enjoy all over again is the 2008 classic, Ninja Gaiden II. This isn’t just a straight compatibility patch, though, they have added Xbox One X enhancements to the game. It was also announced that 5 other Xbox 360 titles that are backwards compatible will also be getting enhancements for Xbox One X. First up are all three of the Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell games for Xbox 360, Double Agent, Conviction, and Blacklist. The other two games getting enhancements are Fable II and Fable III.
