Ubisoft has had something of a mixed year. While Tom Clancy’s The Division 2 has been quite well received the same cannot be said for Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Breakpoint. One area that the publisher has had success in that I never knew about was TV. I’ve watched the major movies based on their IP (Prince of Persia, Assassin’s Creed – thankfully I avoided the Uwe Boll version of Far Cry) but never knew they had dipped their toes in the TV space. It turns out that they have created 4 seasons of a show based on their Rabbids franchise. Well, they are now looking to expand that with TV shows based on some more of their properties.
The biggest of these properties are Watch Dogs and Far Cry. The publisher is developing a couple of TV shows aimed at Tweens (9-12-year-olds) based on these franchises. Obviously, this will require some taming down of the content as both of these franchises have produced mature-rated games. According to reporting in The Hollywood Reporter, they are aiming to turn the Watch Dogs series into a “tamer cybermystery”. The Far Cry series will take on the Blood Dragon sub-franchise and will be called “Captain Laserhawk: A Blood Dragon Vibe”. Ubisoft is also reportedly working on shows based their Hungry Shark games as well as Rayman.
