Apex Legends has certainly been one of the biggest surprises of this year. For a start, no-one knew anything about the game or had even heard about it until a couple of weeks before launch. When it was released we were greeted with a free-to-play game from EA that wasn’t predatory in its monetisation. Seriously, an Electronic Arts title that didn’t ram microtransactions down your throat and it was free-to-play! Anyway, after a successful first season, gamers are eagerly awaiting Season 2.
Well, a trailer has just been released for Season 2 that is being called Battle Charge. It introduces a new Legend as well as a new weapon. You check out the trailer below –
The new Legend is Wattson, a Static Defender. Apparently she is the daughter of the Games’ lead electrical engineer. Her Passive Ability is called ‘Spark of Genius’. With this ability accelerants fully charge your Ultimate Ability, and standing near interception pylons boosts your Tactical Ability recharge. Speaking of Ultimate Abilities, Wattson’s is an ‘Interception Pylon’. This allows her to place up to 3 electrified pylons that destroy incoming ordnance and repairs damaged shields as long as it stands. Meanwhile, her Tactical Ability is called ‘Perimeter Security’ and connects nodes to create electrified fences that damage and slow enemies.
The new weapon is the L-Star, a “rare and powerful LMG”. This new gun fires “large, high-damage plasma projectiles at a fast cyclic rate”. To learn more about this weapon you can check out the video below along with more details about it –
The L-STAR’s unique projectiles are much larger than those fired by other weapons in Apex. Players need to lead targets more at range to compensate for the L-STAR’s slower projectiles, but on the flip side, they don’t have to aim quite as precisely to get good effect on target.
All this plasma-fueled power comes at a price: the L-STAR will overheat if players hold the trigger down too long. When the L-STAR overheats, its lens breaks and needs to be replaced, which takes some time. Expert players learn to feather the trigger with short/medium bursts, taking short breaks to let the weapon cool down.
They also released some details about the new Battle Pass –
- Level up via Daily and Weekly Challenges.
- Time to Battle Pass level 100 should be significantly reduced.
- Three additional Legendary skins added to the rewards track.
- Three entirely new content categories replace badge and stat tracker rewards.
- You’ll earn enough Crafting Metal rewards from the full reward track to craft a Legendary item, or whatever your heart desires.
