Cyberpunk 2077 multiplayer not due until after 2021

Whilst Cyberpunk 2077 is one of our most anticipated releases of the year, we’ve suffered a setback recently. The game has been delayed by around 5 months to allow for additional development time. Whilst this is not bad news in general, it does mean we have to wait a little longer to get our mitts on it. Now, the developer has put a rough date on the multiplayer release, and it won’t be for some time yet.

We’ve known for a while that multiplayer was to be a different beast entirely; developed separately fromĀ  the singe player experience. However, a release window was never discussed, until now, where the development team have said it won’t be out in the wild until after 2021. That means we could be waiting a full two years after launch to play online.

What interests us most, is how this relates to next gen. By that time, Xbox Series X will have been out for over a year, and players will be used to those new systems. Could we see a 2nd release on next gen that includes online multiplayer? Or maybe a next gen version would contain just the multiplayer portion? After all, there have been hints that multiplayer could be free-to-play.

Are you looking forward to Cyberpunk 2077 multiplayer?
