A brand new IP is coming from historic developer Rare! Hot on the heels of Sea of Thieves comes EVERWILD. EVERWILD is being created by a second team at Rare, whilst part of the studio continues work on Sea of Thieves. They share a similar visual style, but this time we move from the rocky shores to the serene forest.
Not much else has been shared about the game so far, but the reveal trailer had a large focus on wildlife. In what appeared to be a vast open world, wildlife roamed free in the grasslands of EVERWILD. Then, people closed in on a mythical-looking elk, before the trailer faded to black.
It’s great to see Rare tackle another new IP following Sea of Thieves. For a while, the team worked on a cycle of Kinect games before a huge shift in focus. Now, the split-team setup has allowed EVERWILD to be developed alongside Sea of Thieves.
The visual style in EVERWILD looks striking. Part Zelda, part Fable, the whimsical art style sets a deliberately endearing tone from the offset. We hope the game is as open as the trailer leads us to believe, and it’ll be interesting to see how much the game relies on combat. Judging by the vibe so far, we’re hoping EVERWILD contains some neat non-combat systems.
EVERWILD doesn’t have a release date just yet, but it’ll launch straight onto Xbox Game Pass. Note the lack of Xbox One in the trailer below, meaning it could well be a Project Scarlett game.
