In a year that has had multiple Gears of War releases between Gears 5 and Gears Pop!, Gears Tactics was one title that was noticeably silent. That changed at The Game Awards, where following the Xbox Series X and Hellblade II announcements, Gears Tactics received a new trailer. The turn-based strategy game will release April 28th, 2020. Check out the new trailer below.
Taking place before Marcus Fenix’s time, you control your troops to attack the locust army. The Locust War has recently started, and the Hammer of Dawn has blown apart most of the world. The main villain of the game has not been given a name yet, but is referred to as a “monster that creates monsters.” Like Gears games in the past, your positioning is going to matter whether you live or die in Gears Tactics. This time, however, you are playing from a top-down perspective like XCOM.
The new trailer promises a 40+ hour campaign and personalization for your soldiers and guns. The trailer also showed off plenty of classic Gears enemies, including the Brumak, and what looked a lot like General RAAM. Regardless, both fans of Gears and strategy games are going to want to tune into this game when it drops in late April.
