Head of Xbox Game Studios Matt Booty recently sat down with gameinformer to talk all things Xbox. The interview covered a wide range of topics, including details on next year’s Halo Infinite. Booty went on to give some details about the scope of the world and how it will differ from previous 343 titles. “But what the team is doing to build a bigger universe and a bigger set of gameplay scenarios, and just more things to explore, is awesome.”
The sense of scale has always been one of Halo‘s best traits. From the moment you crash landed at the beginning of Combat Evolved, Halo did a great job of feeling huge. Firefights felt dynamic not only in combat flow but due to the space the battlefields provided. Recent Halo titles went away from that somewhat, by offering scripted but more limited level design.
Booty was cautious with his wording, keen to stress that the game won’t be strictly sandbox. To call it that would likely lean heavier into comparisons with the original developer’s recent efforts with Destiny. ” I won’t go so far as to say sandbox because you bring up sandbox and people sort of overload that term with a lot of other things.” More expansive is the way Booty wants to frame it, which is just fine with us.
