About a week ago, 2K released a controversial trailer for NBA 2K20. The clip, which has now been removed from the official YouTube channel, showed more gambling than gameplay. A seemingly unwise choice right now, with many corners of the games industry trying to tackle microtransactions head on. The game has now been released, and it seems those issues with the trailer have carried over.
As reported by gamesindustry, UK physical sales of NBA 2K20 are down by almost a third on last year’s entry. This coincides with a “fix2k20” hashtag trending on twitter, a sign that fans aren’t happy. The game is also being review bombed on Metacritic and Steam, with user scores sitting at 1.2 and 2 out of 10 respectively. Despite this, the title is the best selling game of the week in the UK, albeit in a poor sales week.
What’s more, some PC users are reporting an alarmingly similar game to what 2K released last year. Not only are much of the game’s systems carried over, like other sports titles, reports are coming in that the game’s desktop icon actually says NBA 2K19. Although this could be a simple mistake, it adds to the controversy surrounding 2K20 and shows negligence from 2K.
If you have picked up the game, what do you think of NBA 2K20 so far?
