E3 is underway, well the press conferences are, the official show starts on Monday. The first of today’s press conferences was the big one (for this website anyway), Xbox! We covered the news live as it happened but if you missed any of the big stories here they all are in just one place –
Things kicked off with a video that turned out to be for Halo Infinite, which is described as ‘the next chapter of the legendary franchise’. The game is using a new engine, the Slipspace engine, and the results are impressive with a level of visual fidelity not yet seen in the Halo universe.
SEKIRO: Shadows Die Twice
From Software used the Xbox E3 Press Conference to share what they have been working on. Their latest epic is a period piece featuring swordplay and some fantasy elements.
Ori and the Will of the Wisps
Ori and the Blind Forest came out of nowhere to provide an incredibly touching story with gorgeous visuals in a challenging 2D platformer. The follow-up looks to tug at the heartstrings again while providing new gameplay mechanics and even more beautiful visuals
Despite the Bethesda press conference being later today, Todd Howard dropped by to share more information on Fallout 76. It has been confirmed that the game is a prequel and we also learned that the environment is four times the size of Fallout 4.
Things had gone a bit quiet on the Crackdown 3 front but our fears about the game were at least partially assuaged thanks to a new trailer for the game. Terry Crews is front and center in the new trailer as his character unleashes havoc in the city. A release window was also confirmed
The Awesome Adventures of Captain Spirit
Dontnod Entertainment are on something of a role at the moment with the Life is Strange series as well as the recently released Vampyr. The next game from the French developer is The Awesome Adventures of Captain Spirit and along with the trailer for the game, the big news was that it’s free!
Kingdom Hearts 3
The Xbox ecosystem may have missed out on the first two Kingdom Hearts titles but the third game in the series made a big impression in the Xbox E3 press conference thanks to an impressive trailer. A release date for the game was also confirmed.
Forza Horizon 4
The surest of surest things was confirmed during the Xbox E3 press conference. Yes, SURPRISE, Forza Horizon 4 is coming to Xbox One later this year. While it’s been pretty certain that the game was in development, what wasn’t known was the location of the game or the what new features will be added. An impressive trailer filled in all the prescient details including a release date.
Battlefield V might have been showcased during yesterday’s Electronic Arts Press Conference but that didn’t stop a new trailer arriving for the game during the Xbox E3 Press Conference.
Tom Clancy’s The Division 2
We’ve known for some time that a sequel to 2016’s The Division and today we got both a trailer that lays the groundwork for the story of the game and a gameplay video showing what we can expect when the game launches in March next year.
Sea of Thieves
For anyone who has already caught the Megalodon in the latest update for Sea of Thieves, you’ll be eager to know what is next and Rare didn’t disappoint with a trailer for the Cursed Sails and Forsaken Shores update that will launch later this year
Tales of Vesperia: Definitive Edition
Bandai Namco brought an announcement trailer for Tales of Vesperia: Definitive Edition. The game has been remastered to celebrate the 10 year anniversary of the original. JRPGs are a genre we need more of on Xbox so this one is a very welcome announcement
We Happy Few
Despite causing quite a stir when it was announced, We Happy Few limped on to the Game Preview Program where it massively lacked content. Well, a new trailer has us back on board with what seems like a strong storyline coupled to the amazing atmosphere that the game already had.
PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds has been tearing it up in the Game Preview Program. The Battle Royale game may have some stiff competition from the AAA shooters that are adding similar modes to their games. PUBG is fighting back though with new maps and modes
The Metro franchise has been ticking along for quite a while now and Metro Exodus looks like it could be the best of the bunch. With a larger focus on outside spaces and an intriguing story, this game could be something special. The Xbox E3 Press Conference saw a new trailer for the upcoming game
It has to be said that one of the themes of the Xbox E3 Press Conference was Japanese games. One of the more surprising titles, and one that garnered a huge reaction on the show floor, was Jump Force which was introduced with an action-packed trailer
Devil May Cry 5
Another Japanese title making waves at the Xbox E3 Press Conference was Devil May Cry 5. The game hadn’t been officially unveiled yet but was unleashed with a trailer and a short on-stage presentation.
Just Cause 4
If you’re a gamer, you probably love crazy action and big explosions. And if you like those things, you are probably a fan of the Just Cause franchise. Well, the latest entry in the high-octane series was announced during the Xbox E3 Press Conference with a typically action-packed trailer
If I was a betting man, I would have put money on CD Projekt Red removing the covers from their hugely anticipated new game, Cyberpunk 2077. Where the announcement would occur, however, was a matter up for the debate. Well, it appears that Microsoft was the winner of the bidding war to have the game on their stage. We were not disappointed.
Microsoft officially confirmed the formation of a new AAAA studio (because triple-A is apparently enough) called The Initiative. The bigger news though was that they have also acquired Undead Labs (the State of Decay developer), Playground Games (the Forza Horizon developer), Compulsion Games (the We Happy Few developer), and Ninja Theory (the Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice developer).
Gears of War
The team at The Coalition have been very busy since shipping Gears of War 4 as they announced three new games during the Xbox E3 Press Conference. The first was a mobile game called Gears Pop! The second was a PC title called Gears Tactics. The third game was the big one, Gears 5, which was showcased with an announcement trailer and a story-based cinematic trailer
Best of the rest
