Playground Games, the team behind the fantastic Forza Horizon series, recently split into two development teams. One of these teams continues to work on the Forza sub-series, whilst the other is building a new RPG. Rumours have swirled since that it will be a new Fable entry, but that is yet to be confirmed. We now know that whatever the RPG becomes, it might not be releasing for some time.
In a job listing, Playground Games are seeking a lead UI engineer. The job is for work on a “brand new open world action / RPG.” This confirms that the listing is not for the Forza team. The post also states “You will join the team and project at an early stage” which makes it seem like the new RPG isn’t very far along in development.
The last Fable title, Legends, was infamously cancelled after years of development. Fable Legends even launched in beta, before being taken down and subsequently cancelled. Although nothing for the series is confirmed, Playground seem like a good studio to take the helm. They’ve put out consistently brilliant open world games, and have the English heritage to bring that Fable flair to a new entry.
