Remedy Entertainment has acquired the publishing rights for Alan Wake

Alan Wake is something of a favourite in Enthusiast Towers. My fellow Enthusiast, Andrew Gonzalez, often talks about how he wants a full sequel to the original game. For those unfamiliar with Alan Wake, it was an action-adventure game where you played as the titular author searching for his missing wife.. The twist was that instead of using normal weapons on enemies, you used a flashlight. It was a spooky game with survival horror elements all wrapped up in a cinematic thriller.

The game was an Xbox 360 exclusive and the first team-up between Remedy Entertainment and Microsoft. Of course, this is the same pairing that brought us Quantum Break. Well, we have received news today that the publishing rights for the game have been acquired by Remedy. Whether this was part of the original deal for the game (which launched 9 years ago), we don’t know. It could have been that Remedy bought the rights because they plan to do something with it. Maybe Microsoft gave them up because they weren’t. All we know is that Remedy are now in control of the Alan Wake IP. Here’s hoping that it could finally lead to a sequel . Maybe Remedy could make it their next project after they release Control in a couple of months.

Alan Wake trailer and official description

If you are unfamiliar with the game here’s the original trailer as well as the official description –

Bringing a new style of storytelling to Xbox 360, Alan Wake is a psychological action thriller from Remedy, the developers of the successful Max Payne series. In this dynamic new title exclusively for Xbox 360, players assume the role of Alan Wake, a best-selling suspense author suffering from writer’s block, who escapes to a small town only to experience the mysterious disappearance of his wife.

Set in the deceptively idyllic town of Bright Falls, Washington, Alan Wake immerses players in an intense and expansive cinematic world that enables players to explore the hyper-realistic and interactive environments. Alan Wake is mission-based with a deeply engaging and suspenseful storyline unveiling new twists and profound character revelations at every turn.

Players will unravel the riveting plot through multilayered character interactions, unique problem-solving and intense combat against terrifying enemies. In this nightmarish world, where fantasy and reality collide, Alan Wake must use a variety of weapons to survive, including his most powerful ally against the darkness – light itself.
