Capcom is absolutely killing it the last couple of years. Monster Hunter World became their greatest selling game ever in 2018, and 2019 saw the release of the excellent Resident Evil 2 Remake. After plenty of leaks and speculation, fans have been clamoring for a Resident Evil 3 remake and got their wish today during the final Sony State of Play for the year. Resident Evil 3 was officially announced to be coming to Xbox One on April 3rd, 2020. It is not alone, however. When you purchase the remake, you also receive Resident Evil: Resistance (AKA Project Resistance).
Resident Evil 3
Resident Evil 3: Nemesis originally released in 1999 for the PlayStation and takes place around the same time as Resident Evil 2. You play as Jill Valentine who is trying to escape from Raccoon City during the zombie outbreak. During her escape, she is constantly being hunt down by a mutated monster named Nemesis. He is programmed to constantly hunt down S.T.A.R.S. members from the first Resident Evil. He has more ways of finding Jill and can be more menacing than Mr. X in RE2.
Like the Resident Evil 2 remake, Resident Evil 3 will feature an over-the-shoulder camera as opposed to the fixed cameras in the original. Jill has also received an update to her wardrobe. In the original, she ran around the city in a skirt. Now, she is set up for action and looks the most badass she has yet in the series. Producers of the game Peter Fabiano and Masachika Kawata give details about both games as well as a first look at gameplay and the collector’s edition available.
Resident Evil: Resistance
Resident Evil: Resistance is a 4v1 asymmetric multiplayer game that plays online. In the game, four survivors work together to escape from the the “mastermind” who is played by the one person on their own. The mastermind can spawn classic Resident Evil monsters, set traps, turn off lights, and more. The game will also feature an offline mode. Check out some gameplay from earlier in the year below.
Fans of the Resident Evil series are seeing an exciting revival of the franchise this generation. The older games are routinely ported to current systems and Resident Evil 2 was one of the best remakes ever. While waiting for Resident Evil 8, you have plenty of chances to relive the classic survival horror games. It is great to see Capcom firing on all cylinders and delivering continuous games that excite their fans. Resident Evil 3 was highly requested to receive a remake after the booming success of RE2. The game coming so soon is probably the most surprising bit of information. The fact that it comes included with a separate multiplayer game that looks fun in its own right is just the cherry on top.
