Last year, Call of Duty was once again the top-selling game of the year. More than that though, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare was seen as something of a revitalisation of the franchise. By allowing Infinity Ward to go back to the sub-franchise that had taken them from popularity to famed developers, Activision has put some fire back in the franchise (just in a good way for once). One of the other good moves that they made with this latest entry in the series was to introduce cross-play. Some games include this feature to make sure that there is a large enough player base for online play. Call of Duty has never really had that problem. However, what it does do is allow for the ultimate bragging rights of who is the best player.
The Call of Duty multiplayer fans tend to be a devout crowd. They will pretty much only play CoD and will not hesitate in criticising you (or your Mother) if you dare try to play the game casually. To this kind of gamer, ranking and Prestige are all that matter. Well, if you’re one of these gamers (or know someone who is as clearly those gamers are currently playing CoD and do not have the time to read anything) you may be interested to know that you have a little more time to level up as Season One of Modern Warfare has been extended until 11th February. You can check out the official statement below –
Over the next few weeks, a host of new items and challenges will arrive, including an in-game Challenge to earn the new Crossbow weapon, more remixed game modes, new playlists, and more in the Store to discover. To make room for all that activity, we are making a one-time extension of Season One – it’s now ending on February 11. During that time, there will be 2XP, 2X Weapon XP, and 2X Tier Progression to help you finish up your Officer Ranks and Tiers, and get you ready for an exciting Season Two.
Whether it’s because I’m not quite up to speed on the lore of Call of Duty or the full ins-and-outs of its multiplayer component but I’m not sure why this extension is happening. Could they not have added new items at the beginning of Season Two? Surely, the start of something new seems like a good time to add new things. Are they just not ready to start Season Two yet and don’t want to admit it? Either way, if you have been enjoying Season One, you’ll have a little longer to enjoy it. In fact, you will be able to celebrate Valentine’s Day by playing Season Two. Unless you have someone to spend it with, oh, who am I kidding.
If you are unfamiliar with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, first you may want to get out more but you can also check out a trailer for Season One of the game below –
