Alongside the blockbuster titles, like Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, still to come this year is a remaster that I’m dying to play. Back in my college days, I spent far too many hours playing Super Monkey Ball on the Gamecube in our student housing. I loved the franchise and was sad to see it go away. This makes me really excited about the remaster of Banana Blitz coming to Xbox One in a couple of weeks. Well, my excitement has just been taken up another notch or two by the announcement that SEGA has added to Sonic the Hedgehog to Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz HD. The announcement was made via a trailer that you can check out below along with the official description of the game –
Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz HD revitalizes this classic title with updated graphics and optimized controls, making it a breeze to jump in and start rolling through the game’s 100 levels.
Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz is Back in HD: Originally released on the Wii in 2006, Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz HD reinvigorates the original game with 100 single-player stages, 10 multi-player mini-games, revamped control schemes, updated graphics, and more.
Online Leaderboards: A first for the series, players can now compete with others around the world through online leaderboards for single-player Time Attack and the all-new Mini-Game Decathlon Score Attack modes.
No Monkey Business – Play Your Way: Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz HD is available on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Steam. With uniquely optimized control schemes for each platform, everyone from first-time rollers to world-record holders can jump right in to the fun!
Sonic the Hedgehog seems like a perfect fit for the Super Monkey Ball franchise. Sonic games, at their best, are all about speed and precision. These are the qualities that also make Super Monkey Ball so good. The fact that SEGA has announced him as an in-game character without any shenanigans is also to be applauded. There are other publishers (I’m looking at you Activision, EA, and Ubisoft) who would have made such a marquee character either a pre-order bonus or even as paid DLC. With Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz HD also being a budget title, this just helps to sweeten the deal even further and really give great value to gamers.
Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz will launch for PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One on 29th October
