Wasteland 3 invites you to its post-apocalyptic world next May

Wasteland

Wasteland 3, from another of Xbox’s internal studios, has a release date of May 19. This classic post-apocalyptic RPG series began over 30 years ago and inXile is bringing the third instalment to Xbox and PC next May. The game was announced way back in 2016 after a successful crowdfunding campaign.

The first thing to note from the new X019 trailer is the leap in visual fidelity. Wasteland 2 only launched around five years ago, but the jump in graphics is immediately noticeable. Wasteland 3 does a fine job at realising its war-torn world and the lands of Wasteland have never looked better.

A May release date is an interesting one. It seems like Microsoft has a solid spring 2020 plan for Xbox Games Studios, following a bunch of teams joining Xbox’s first party lineup. Ori and the Will of the Wisps, Bleeding Edge and Wasteland 3 all have solid spring release dates, with Grounded, Obsidian’s new game, launching into Game Preview around the same time.

Wasteland is said to have inspired the Fallout series, so if you’re after your post-apocalyptic RPG fix, this could be it. After all, the barebones release of Fallout 76 could hardly be described as a proper RPG. Wasteland 3 might have an old school style, but if the trailer is anything to go by, inXile has certainly attempted to modernise the series.

Wasteland 3 launches on May 19, 2020. The X019 trailer is available below.
